Road To Bloodstock 2022 – Crepitation

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Crepitation who play the Sophie stage on the Friday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Surprisingly difficult to answer. Were based in Liverpool, originally based in Manchester. Currently we have 4 people in Liverpool and 1 in Weston Super Mare. Of those 4 in Liverpool, 1 is from Worcester and 1 is from Burnley with the other 2 from Liverpool. Regret asking that now?!

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Technically the band began at the back end of 2005 but we have had considerable lineup changes over the years, more than Napalm Death it seems. The current incarnation has performed together since 2017 and officially since 2020.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The horrible crackling noise the broken bones makes or the noise of a severe chest infection. It’s from a French word for crackling.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

A massive mixture of slam, death metal, grind, tech metal and random vocal noises. We have two vocalists who make inhuman noises and try to deliver the most extreme music we are able to.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Those who’ve seen us before know we deliver an intense live show with a tongue-in-cheek approach to extreme metal.

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

This will be the first time for Crepitation but Joe and Ste played in 2021 with Colpocleisis.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

We were lucky enough to be offered a slot by Simon and were announced in February

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We will have quite a mix of material spanning our career but promoting from our upcoming full length

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Clashing with GWAR would such as they have such an insane stage show.

What are you working on at the moment?

Our next full length. We’re recording at the moment and hoping for a late 2022 release

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We shared a venue in El Paso, Texas with some bikers that appeared to be working with cartel members in the back area. Looked like a vehicle chop shop/drug dealing location. Police and SWAT turned up outside to surround some vehicles and there was a scene for about an hour. Played the show and drove to Colorado straight after.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Varies really but Jager or Fireball always go down well.
