We had a breather last year, but again we’re aiming to bring you a little bit of info about as many bands as possible who will be featuring at this year’s Bloodstock Festival. Hitting the Jagermeister Stage on the Sunday are Boycott The Baptist…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Boycott The Baptist are based in Carlisle, Cumbria, UK
How long have you been playing together as a band?
The band was formed in September 2013, playing 250 shows since then. However the current lineup has been together for 3 years.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The name of the band comes from an article about a woman who took a dirty protest on the lawn of the Westboro Baptist during the start of their “God Hates Fags” period.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Boycott The Baptist are a mix of grindcore, sludge metal, jazz and rock n’ roll. I suppose we’re unique in the fact that we throw all of those into the blender and hope for the best. You’re either gonna love it or hate it.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our live show is a wall of noise, guitar melodies, riffs and a tight drummer. Hell of a racket considering there’s only two of us. Why should folk watch us? Because it’ll entertain you and weird you out we suppose.
Have you been to Bloodstock before?
In 2012 we came to Bloodstock and reckon it’s one of the best festivals on the UK circuit.
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
Few months ago we found out we’re playing Bloodstock, kept asking Simon and in the end he had heard good things, so why not eh?
What sort of setlist can we expect?
A setlist full of punk fuelled metallic noise and potentially a Scissor Sisters cover.
Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Gonna hate to miss any bands really because there’s so much decent talent on the Sunday. Definitely can’t wait to see Therapy? though, it would be proper shit to not see them at the fest.
We’re currently working on a new track called “Jane Doe in Idaho”, our fourth album which is yet to have a name and some record splits as soon as possible.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Probably our guitarist falling off the roof of a bar in Las Vegas or jumping from the highest ceiling pillar of the Parish Bar in Huddersfield and not dying. We always tend to get daft at gigs.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
High quality H20 (something for all the waterboy fans). Nah, probably just rum.
