It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the SOPHIE, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.
As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.
Our thanks to all the bands / artists for taking the time out to answer our questions!
28 Double – New Blood Stage, Sunday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We come hailing from Derby and the surrounding shire!
How long have you been playing together as a band?
The band started in 2014! However, we’ve been playing music together or supporting each other’s ventures for much longer as we’ve been friends for a long time. Woodhouse (drums) and Tal (guitar) actually went to school together!
Where does the name of the band come from?
When the band was formed, Tal went off on a jolly to Venice and was telling us how ridiculously expensive some of the bars were. It cost 28 euros for a double Jack Daniel’s and that’s before a splash (if you’re partial to that)! Putting the 2 together seemed quite quirky and didn’t streamline any musical stereotypes, so it stuck. So basically, we’re named after an over-price drink!
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Individually, we all have very different and varied tastes in music. Together we draw our inspirations from all of those places, resulting in catchy melodies, body grinding grooves, intoxicating solos and driving heavy riffs bundled in a fresh modern package! If you like bands such as Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, Down and Black Sabbath (to name a few) then you’ll most likely enjoy one of our shows!
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We are very much a live band! You can expect a full-on high-energy performance, delivered as a no-messing hard rock show! We’re there to give everyone a good time and have a good time ourselves doing what we love! We’ve been working towards this moment for a long time, so come be a part of something special and those that come to see us will be in for a treat.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
You could call us veterans! Gav started going in 2004 back when it was the indoor event at Derby Assembly rooms, then by 2008 we were all regular attendees and able to call it home! Since then, it’s been a permanent fixture on all of our calendars. We love it!
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We came through the Leicester region! Being an outside band from another city was a little daunting at first, but Leicester has a great scene full of friendly folk and great musicians! We were made to feel welcome from the start – we’ve found ourselves another adopted home and made lots of friends who we are looking forward to seeing and partying with at Bloodstock!
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
A massive rush of euphoria, shock, amazement, over the moon!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Our songs carry a lot of variety, so expect a well-balanced set that captures some of our extremes! We will be performing a range of old and new songs and everything in between! It’s gonna be jam-packed and hard-hitting start to finish waking everyone up for the final day at Bloodstock.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
On the Sunday, a few of our mate’s are also playing! We’ve been gigging with Witch Tripper since they won M2tM back in 2016 (we were fellow finalists!) so would be awesome to see them rock the Sophie stage; that would be a very difficult clash if that happens… Hoping to see Resin too, also on the Sophie stage, Simon Yarwood (guitar) was the promoter in charge of M2TM Leicester and would be great to see and support them as I know they have a special show lined up too! Other bands on the Sunday we would like to avoid clashing with are Wheel, Dee Snider, Queensryche and Dimmu Borgir.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’ve just filmed our 3rd music video for upcoming single “Grind”. We had a great time shooting it and the video will be released on Friday 9th August! We have also got some headline shows coming up with fellow bands we’ve met and become friends with through this years M2tM:
- Friday 23rd August – The Sitwell Tavern, Derby (with Graves and No Setting Sun)
- Sunday 25th August – The County Music Bar, Chesterfield (supporting Witch Tripper)
- Friday 20th September – The County Music Bar, Chesterfield (with Seven Hells, By Design and Omen Machine)
Later on in the year were also making our first appearance at Newcastle’s Trillians with a ground shattering line-up for Rock the Foundry 2! We will also be working on a little something extra to release with “Grind” when it becomes available on platforms.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
There was this woman who came to specifically see us at a show and she felt compelled to bring her “partner” – her words, an inflatable cock! And yes… she danced with it and everything!
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
We like to hit the Jägertrain with a little bomb!
