It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the Sophie Lancaster, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.
As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Voidlurker – New Blood Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Birmingham, the city where doom was born.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Me and Andrew had our first practice in late 2016 using a drum track on my iPod to play along to, then around June 2017, Jack joined the band as our drummer.
Where does the name of the band come from?
We’d needed a name for a while and I was trying to think of words to put together, and then out of nowhere the name just hit me.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Filthy, aggressive doom/sludge with crushing low end riffs. Sometimes we’ll play slow, then speed the tempo up then slow it down a stupid amount.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our live shows have always been dark and atmospheric. We’ve been told by a fair amount of fans now that we’ve sent them into a trance during our show.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
All of us go to bloodstock every year and we love it. We couldn’t be happier about playing there!
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won as the wildcard in Birmingham.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Ecstatic, excited and bloody chuffed
What sort of setlist can we expect?
One that will send you into the void. We’ll be playing:
- Rotten Seed
- Industrial Nightmare
- Jeffrey Doomer
- Bitchcraft and Misery
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
BongCauldron, Swallow the Sun, Boss Keloid, Ten Ton Slug and Taake, to name a few.
What are you working on at the moment?
3 days after Bloodstock we’ll be heading to Skyhammer studios to record our EP with Chris Fielding from Conan
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We played a show at Stafford University last year and there was a guy who looked like he was running from certain death for a long time. He’d run, stop, look around and repeat. We couldn’t stop laughing.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
It varies at every show, sometimes it’ll be a jack and coke, sometimes it’ll be a beer. And rarely a water.
