It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the Sophie Lancaster, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.
As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Footprints in the Custard – SOPHIE Stage, Thursday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re based in Manchester but originally we formed at a college in Crewe.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
About 13 years now!
Where does the name of the band come from?
The idea is that we’re the shit punchline of a bad joke – how do you know when an elephant has been in your fridge? Footprints In The Custard.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
It’s heavy, it’s catchy, and it’s very silly. We want people to have a laugh and a bit of a party with us. Our songs are all about ridiculous and rude things, it’s all very puerile.
What’s your live show like?
It’s very energetic, involves lots of inflatable toys and a tutu and a mankini. We certainly look different. Not sure if that’s good or bad though.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
We played the New Blood stage in 2016 after winning the Hobgoblin M2tM competition to play. It was epic – such a great crowd.
How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?
Russ got a call from Simon Hall a few months ago. Or rather Simon left a message on his phone of him belching. Lovely.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We’re mainly going to be playing songs from our new album A New Low that came out in June. Of course we’ll throw in a couple of old songs too!
Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
We’re playing on the Thursday so I don’t think there are any clashes but we’d have all been gutted to clash with The Wildhearts!
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re touring the UK with our Aussie pirate buddies Lagerstein in September so we’re getting the prep done for that at the moment, and we’re also working on a new music video. Most of the hard work was done earlier in the year to get the new album out.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Uhhhh. Play naked? Haha! I think seeing the Bloodstock crowd bring a load of d*ck swords with them for our set in 2016 was incredible and utterly bonkers. Seeing the crowd let off a giant inflatable penis rocket that jizzed balloons into the New Blood tent was absolutely spectacular.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
We quite often do a round of Jagers before a set although that changed to tequila at our album launch show, much to the disdain of a couple of band members!
