#RoadToBOA2019 – Fallen Temples

It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the Sophie Lancaster, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.

As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Fallen Temples – New Blood Stage, Sunday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re based in Cardiff.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We’ve playing together since 2015. Me (Lewis – bass) and Vaughany (vocals, guitar) have been playing together since 2006. We joined up with Stirland in 2015 and fit right in straight away.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The name Fallen Temples comes from the chorus of our song “Eternal Drift”: “Now your temples have fallen”.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We blend the old school rock and metal of the 70s and 80s with the groove of the 90s. Every song has to have big riffs and memorable vocals. We were once described as riff ‘n’ groove, which I think is a good tagline for us.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

One of the things we hear the most from people who’ve seen us is how tight we and how much energy we have. We make sure we’re as tight as musically possible then dial the energy levels up to the max. When we finish we’ll be dripping with sweat and hopefully the crowd will too.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

I’ve been before and I think it’s a great festival. They always have the best metal bands around and it has a really friendly atmosphere.

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

We were lucky enough to be put through as a guest band at M2tM South Wales competition.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

We were ecstatic and thankful to everyone who supported us.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We’re going down the route of the set we played in the M2TM final. We’ve chosen our highest energy songs as we feel they will make the biggest impact in a 30 min set.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

We’re heading up on the Saturday so hopefully we’ll catch the likes of Cradle of Filth, Anthrax and Parkway Drive. Then on Sunday I definitely want to catch Wheel and Soilwork so hopefully we won’t clash with those guys. We’re on earlier on Sunday so we should be good to catch the bands like Dee Snider and Scorpions later in the day.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’re in the studio at this very moment recording an EP with the plan to release a single and video in the next couple months. We’ve got some other big gigs coming up too. We’ll be playing Scotland for the first time at StormBreakers on 31st August. Then on 26th October we’ll supporting the mighty Skindred.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Probably the wildest gig we’ve done is at Kingsfest. It’s in a small town called Llanidloes in mid Wales and the crowd go crazy! I wanted to get them going berserk so I offered a free t-shirt to whoever moshed the hardest. At the end of the gig a guy came up to us with blood dripping down his face after breaking his tooth. He definitely earned that t-shirt. I asked him if he was OK and he said not to worry as he’d just rebroken the same tooth he broke watching us the year before! I should have given him 2 t-shirts!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

We have a couple of beers but we usually hold off having too many till after the show. We like to put on the best possible show so we don’t want to be hammered. Our adrenaline is usually pretty high when we play so we don’t need much to fire ourselves up.
