It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the Sophie Lancaster, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.
As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Empire Warning – New Blood Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are all originally from West London, except Grant, he used to travel every week from Essex.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
In our current line-up we have been together a year, but as a full band its little over 10 years now.
Where does the name of the band come from?
We struggled for a long time for a name. We resorted to joking around one night near Shepherds Bush Green shouting out the first things we saw – “Black Cab”, “Red Bus” then Elsio said “Empire Warning” (we were standing outside Shepherds Bush Empire and a warning sign).
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We have such an eclectic taste between us we dip our toes into everything we enjoy with our core sound, mixing old with new and keeping a groove
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We are a high energy act and we will leave everything we have in us on stage, expect groove, thrash and full on heavy riffs.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Ben had been before it was even open air when Orange Goblin headlined. We can’t wait to see Bloodstock now in all its glory!
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won the London region. It was a tough journey and not our first time we had been in the running.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Excited, shocked and speechless – it was like an amazing dream
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Full on, no easing up from start to finish. One song in there so you can catch your breath.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Resin, Karibdis, The Wildhearts and Evil Scarecrow to name a few.
What are you working on at the moment?
We have finished our next release due out late October with a music video. We have an announcement due 26 July 2019 so please follow us on social media to get that news.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
A lady once threw her crutch to the side, limped to the front of the stage and rocked harder than everybody else. We fed off that energy
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Good beer or good whisky, Röad Crew (the Motörhead beer) was our beer of choice during M2TM London.
