#RoadToBOA2019 – Crescent

It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the SOPHIE, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.

As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Crescent – SOPHIE Stage, Sunday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Cairo, Egypt. However, our new bassist is German.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Crescent was formed in 1998 and it has been steadily active since 2013.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The crescent has always been an important symbol throughout Egypt’s history and it’s embedded into its various cultures throughout time: from ancient times until today.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We are a blackened death firestorm from Egypt. We don’t play folk-tinged metal, we are primarily an extreme metal band that incorporates a lot of elements of melodic black metal along with the ferocity of death metal. Adding to all that, our music sounds significantly and genuinely Egyptian. Crescent is a band that started as a black metal band but ended up today with death metal in the mix, with riffs / topics / atmospheres that reflect us and our roots and personal experiences.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Rock ‘n’ roll… It will be one hell of an extreme metal show, you won’t help but feel the fire emanating from us on stage. You’ll get the headbanging riffs, the blasts, the melodies, the ritualistic and atmospheric darkness within our music. Our shows captivate; you’ll be floored.

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

We have not! In fact, Bloodstock represents our debut show in the UK!

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage on the Sunday?

Through our booker, some time in April I think.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

The sort that will get you headbanging and will render you musically satisfied, and thus floored.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Hypocrisy and Rotting Christ, absolute legends. I guess some of us would check Helheim, Aborted, Dimmu Borgir and Scorpions out.

What are you working on at the moment?

Many things are in the works and are yet to be announced, we’re very excited to reveal all of them in due time. Activities are happening on all fronts! For this year, we’re playing Gothoom Open Air festival in Slovakia, Bloodstock and a London show supporting Deicide and Krisiun! That’s all that we can say now.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

You can never pin it down to one thing, you just end up getting used to all of the madness too! I certainly cannot remember anything.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Tea and lots of water (occasionally beer, but not for most of us), gotta stay hydrated (laughs). Anything else after the show, that’s when we party with everyone offstage.
