It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the SOPHIE, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.
As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Bloodred Hourglass – SOPHIE Stage, Sunday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Hey! We originate from a small city in Finland called Mikkeli.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
It all started back in the days year 2005. Things got a bit more serious back in 2012 when our debut album was released.
Where does the name of the band come from?
We wish this had a superior story behind of it, but actually it was just a cool song name that somehow ended up becoming the name of the band.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We mix the history and the modern sound of metal in a melodic form, in a unique enough way it’s safe to say we have a solid signature sound these days. Let’s call it the new modern wave of melodic death metal.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We think we have always held our own on this department. It is something you need to see, hear and experience but we will not leave you cold or disappointed. We bring in a lot of energy with warm atmosphere and interaction with audience.
Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?
This is actually our first time in UK even and we are extremely happy to finally be there!
How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?
We checked the program at some point and came across the name, but only now that you asked realised (by taking a look at some YouTube stuff) that it’s a really nice looking stage!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
A crushing mixture of our latest three albums with focus on new material from Godsend.
Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Great line-up but definitely would love to see Parkway Drive and Soilwork the most.
What are you working on at the moment?
We just released a new album and the biggest rush is starting to ease off just a little. There is still a lot of things running in the background constantly, from the upcoming shows later this year to some musical projects to be done also.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
There’s been small shows with people flying on stage, falling PA’s and stuff with crazy circle pits but we’ve always behaved quite nicely by ourselves. Such gentlemen…
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
It’s mostly water these days, but one glass of red wine will make you feel warm and give a nice extra flavour any day.
