With Wacken XXX looming up to stomp its big metal footprint on Germany again this summer, we’re taking a look at a bunch of the bands who are hitting its iconic stages for the first time. Confused as to whether their favourite animal is a kangaroo or an elk, today’s band are The Lazys…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Bloody all over the place really! The band originated on the Central coast of Australia which is an hour north of Sydney. Now we all live in Toronto Canada… Go figure!
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
This is has got to be one of the most exciting questions we ever get asked… Not! The band name originated from TJ’s laziness in the bedroom! TMZ’s a bitch!
Describe your music. Who are your musical influences?
We are a flat out, full scaled high energy rock band. We play loud, we play fast, we play hard and we give the crowd what they want. A fuckin’ rock show! Our influences range from ACDC to RATM, Zeppelin to Silverchair and Bring me the Horizon.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Our new single “Half Mast Blues” is about a pirate who has erectile dysfunction issues!
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Its real, its raw, its dirty. There’s chaos, loads of sweat and we hope to make people horny! We have been a band for over 12 years so I’ve certainly lost count!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
In the early days our lead guitarist Matty Morris got belted by a redneck with a pool cue when soloing on the bar. FUCK THAT GUY!
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We are currently touring our new record Tropical Hazards, and most recently the new single from it, “Half Mast Blues”.
Other than Wacken, what are your plans for 2019?
Plenty on the cards! We’re doing some shows with Black Stone Cherry, we have many other summer festivals in Europe, plus we will be doing a fall tour of both Canada and Europe later this year!
What are you most looking forward to at Wacken this year?
Drinking beers, running amuck, seeing our Aussie pals Airbourne and Parkway Drive, plus Slayer!
