HRH Interview: Ballsdeep

Prior to their performance at HRH, I had the opportunity to chat with a few members of Ballsdeep about their performance on the day and also how deep their balls are…

You’re playing at HRH today are you looking forward to it?

We’re really looking forward to it, second year in a row. We were nervous as shit last year before we went on as the amount of our heroes who’ve played at the academy is just massive. We’re ready for it this year though.

This is the second year the festival has sold out. Can you think of any reasons why?

A bit of everything really. The quality of the bands are really good and it’s great that 3000 people want to come to one venue and see everyone play. The headliners that are on are hard-workers in knackered buses just the same as the rest of yes. It’s awesome to see.

How deep are your balls?

[Laughter] Depends on the time of day. They are deeper in the evening.

What are your plans for the next 6 to 12 months?

You’re getting a bit of an exclusive here. We’ve not announced this yet even on our website. We’re heading into the studio to start recording some new stuff 3 weeks from today. The idea from our next record is that we’re going to release it in 3 parts every six months. In this day and age, people aren’t wanting to wait 2 or 3 years for a new album so what we’re doing is splitting it up. That basically means that every six months, people get new Ballsdeep shit. After we’ve released all 3 parts, we’ll do a physical release of them which people can get if they give a shit. We’ve been touring the last album for pretty much 3 years now and it make sense to us to do this format.

Will it be the same producer as last time?

Yes we’re going back to Framework studios with Simon Reeves here in Birmingham. That guy is amazing and he’s been working with us since 2003. We can’t wait to get back in there and record some stuff.

What is a band local to your area that should be getting more attention?

Eradikator for sure. Those guys are phenomenal and supported us when we released our last album. They’re working with Russ Russell on a new album and we can’t wait to here they’ve done. Those guys are awesome and are playing before us today so we need to bring our a-game.

What is one thing you wish someone told you before you started?

That we’d still be doing this 20 years later. If someone came up to us and said that we’d playing the stages our heroes did all those years ago, that would have blown my mind. It’s all about working hard and enjoying what you do. If you don’t then it’s not going to work.

Tea or Coffee?

Tea, all the time.
