As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 9th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
King Bison (UK) – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Friday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Hi, we are from Plymouth, Devon in the south west of England.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Well four of us have been playing in bands together since we were 15/16. I am now 36 so a long time.
Where does the name of the band come from?
We spent the usual 2/3 weeks getting a list of names together (which is always so much harder than it should be ) and eventually agreed King Bison suited what we were doing best.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
It’s a solid mix of metal and rock n’ roll, plastered with attitude and dirt. Guaranteed to raise glasses and bang heads. It’s different to what’s out there at the minute.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
I think we stand out from other bands when it comes to our live shows. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we are not demanding, we just want to have a good bloody time and that definitely shows. It’s important to make an impression and be remembered and we always do our best to entertain.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
For me personally this will be my first time at the festival and I cannot wait. Such a fantastic line up. Three of the guys in our band have been several times before and they can’t praise the festival and set up enough.
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We entered M2TM knowing we had a very good chance of winning and that’s nothing against anyone else in the comp, but we work very hard at what we do and are very confident in our ability and delivery. You have to go into these things with confidence and show you are ready for bigger and better things.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
A 30 minute wall of our heaviest groove injected tracks, soaked in beer and good times!
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Too many bands I want to see so that is tricky. DevilDriver are one of my favourites so I am very pleased we play Friday and not Sunday.
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently back in the studio and tunes are flowing. We have enough tracks now for two albums so we will choose carefully and go and record our first album.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
This will always be our drummer Hardin stage diving at a One Minute Silence gig. He totally misjudged the distance and went head first into the barrier. I can still see it clearly now and it always makes me chuckle.
Jäger, Hobgoblin Ale, Red Bull, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
