#RoadToWildfire2018 – Witch Tripper

Much like we endeavour every year before Bloodstock, this year, for Scotland’s Wildfire Festival which kicks off on 22nd June, we’re interviewing every band set to play the stages of Wiston. You get to hear (or read) right from the horse’s mouth who you should be watching over the course of the weekend.

Previous years have seen some excellent acts grace the stages as our reviews can attest to and trust us when we say this year is no different! So get reading and listening so you can plan your coffee/beer/food breaks accordingly…

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Witch Tripper

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are Witch Tripper and we are from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire!

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We started in January 2014.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It’s actually a Down song but it’s something which we used from the beginning and it’s kind of stuck with us. I think people know it’s us now!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Well, we love the groove and the riff, so anything that makes you bang your head and shake your booty is what we try and get out of it!

What’s your live show like? Why should people watch you?

Fast, hot, sweaty! Full of riffs and we always give it our all when we play, no matter the gig or situation. We always have a good time and we hope that comes across in our shows!

Have you played Wildfire before? If so, when?

No, it’s our first time and we are looking forward to it!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We released our second album in April this year, I, Of The Storm. So we will be playing a few of our well-played songs from our debut as well as a lot of the new stuff!

Which band are you most looking forward to seeing?

Well we are great friends with Ritual King and These Wicked Rivers so definitely those guys, but there are a lot of bands we have yet to see so it would be good to check them all out!

What have you got planned for the second half of 2018?

Well, we did over 100 shows last year, this year we released the second album so we’re looking to keep up the pace with that, lots of gigs up and down the UK and festival appearances so we’ll pretty much be on the road constantly as normal!

What’s been the highlight for the band’s career so far?

Well, we’ve just come back from our first international gig at HRH Roadtrip in Ibiza! Now that was something else! It’s hard to pin down: we’ve had so much good luck with shows! Bloodstock twice, Amplified festival twice! I guess the highlight would be seeing our hard work paying off! Aside from the biggies like that, Uprising the night before last year at Firebug in Leicester was awesome as well as HRH Doom v Stoner at the O2 in Sheffield last year!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Well! Depends what kind of detail we can go into here! We like to party so the usual rock and roll debauchery! We’re all pretty crazy and lots of explicit things have and can happen. Usually involves lots of drinking and partying! I’m sure fellow rockers can fill in some gaps in there!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Clutch – that would be the dream support slot! As someone on before us? Man, we have a lot of good friends in bands so we’re gonna name a couple: either Master Charger, Quiet The Thief, Sound Of Origin, Voodoo Blood, Ten Ton Slug, Red Spektor, Fakehead – the list goes on. We’re lucky to have met some great bands on our journey!

What day/time are you playing at Wildfire? (If you have your slot yet!)

We’re playing Friday so far!

Pistonhead Lager, Cloven Hoof rum or Thistly Cross cider? And yes, we’ll be counting the votes!

Well, neither as we like strong Craft ale, but the closest to that would be Pistonhead. Give us a nice strong Triple IPA and we’re sorted!
