Much like we endeavour every year before Bloodstock, this year, for Scotland’s Wildfire Festival which kicks off on 22nd June, we’re interviewing every band set to play the stages of Wiston. You get to hear (or read) right from the horse’s mouth who you should be watching over the course of the weekend.
Previous years have seen some excellent acts grace the stages as our reviews can attest to and trust us when we say this year is no different! So get reading and listening so you can plan your coffee/beer/food breaks accordingly…

Massive Wagons
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Northwest England-shire, squire. Deepest darkest Lancaster, to be vaguely precise.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
8.5 years of fun, fun, fun.
Where does the name of the band come from?
Our favouritest barmaid in the world from our once favouritest bar in the world; the bar where the band was born, drinking fine ales, causing mischief nightly and talking cobblers till the wee hours.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Loud, lairy, hairy, honest, heartfelt, aggressive, passionate music. Our drummer smells like an old sock also. I don’t know if that makes us unique or not, probably not.
What’s your live show like? Why should people watch you?
100% commitment, fast, furious, very sweaty, a non-stop action-packed kick in the shins, if nothing else you can’t say we don’t try. Life’s too short not to, all bands deserve to be watched.
Have you played Wildfire before? If so, when?
Hell, yes. I think this is the fourth or fifth time now, it gets bigger and better every year! An outstanding festival attended by wonderful people, Dave Ritchie has done more for emerging bands than anyone.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
There will definitely be songs on it; a mix really, largely Welcome to the World and Full Nelson with an odd gem thrown in for good measure. We are currently getting the new ones tight for festival season; new ones seem to be going down a storm.
Which band are you most looking forward to seeing?
Without a shadow of a doubt Those Damn Crows, my favourite new band, absolute magic they are and great guys. The line-up is chocka with ace bands: Rocket Dolls, Empyre, Aaron Buchannan, Mason Hill to name a few. Dave’s really gathered the cream of the UK. Rock scene, all we need now is black pudding pizza and some sun and we have Wildfire!
What have you got planned for the second half of 2018?
Currently looking at tour options off the back of the new album Full Nelson either another headline tour or maybe a support tour, have to just see how things unfold. Either way it will be gigs and song writing as normal, just keeping those things going is the main job for us. We’ve not been over to Ireland for a while so that would be cool to get back over.
What’s been the highlight for the band’s career so far?
I’d say so far signing with Earache, playing Manchester Ritz and Nottingham Rock City with The Wildhearts to packed houses and the recent headline tour, especially selling the Borderline out were all career highlights for us. All were seemingly unobtainable dreams a few years ago, tons and tons of other highlights as well but the biggest and most recent I’d say were those three.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
When you’re talking wild men, nothing I can or likely will ever do can compare to Joel from Airbourne, I’ll keep my pathetic tales to myself. When you see him at Download in thrashing rain climb to the lightning rod on top of stage 2, topless, with a Gibson SG on his back, no safety, no fuck all, the man becomes a dot in the sky, then plays a wild solo headbanging like a maniac, you suddenly realise you’re about as dangerous as Paddington Bear.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Seeing as I’ve mentioned a few bands already, I’ll pick different, opening defo Tequilla Mockingbyrd, their new stuff is outstanding! Those girls can write a serious tune! And headliner, Airbourne, before we pack it in I wanna support those guys; best live band in the world.

I do love Pistonhead, their whole range is outstanding! Never been a cider man myself, so not for me. But it’s gotta be Cloven Hoof, they have made me a rum drinker, that stuff is delicious! Hands down the Hoof!
