Prior to their performance at Bloodstock, we caught up with Canadian prog-metallers ONI to chat about their upcoming performance and any bands they are looking forward to seeing. Read on for the full transcription…
You guys are playing the Sophie stage in a few hours. Any nerves or anything?
Not really. We don’t really like the waiting period between arriving and actually playing the shows but you kinda have to deal with it. We’re gradually getting used to it, but it never gets any easier.
Since the tour with Devil You Know, you guys have been here, there and everywhere. Do you stop and think about how far you’ve come in such a short time?
We’ve not really had chance to stop and think as it’s been non-stop since then. It was even like that on that tour as it was our first time in Europe. We’ll be slowing down soon though as we have this show and then one more before we go back into the studio to write the next album. We’ve got loads of ideas for it and some demos pre-recorded which are sounding pretty good. We’re hoping for a Summer 2018 release but that’s speculative at the moment.
What do you think of bloodstock so far?
It’s great! We played tech-fest a few months ago which was kinda like this on a smaller scale but this seems to be a more family friendly place. Not to say that tech-fest wasn’t, it’s just a bit different. You hear about metal falling from the limelight all the time but festivals like this prove it wrong.
If you had to pick the lineup for next year, what bands would you pick?
Slipknot would be a good headliner alongside Metallica and Pantera. If we could turn the clock back somehow then it’d be awesome to see them.
Describe the band in 3 words.
erm… Please watch us!
