As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Wintersun – Sophie Lancaster Stage, Sunday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Finland, from the forest of 100,000 lakes.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Since 2005.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The first album’s concept was ready without a band name. The theme was very wintry and dark with a hint of sun here and there. “Winter Madness” and “Beyond the Dark Sun” were the two songs where the band name comes from and represent the style and atmosphere perfectly.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
It’s an epic, cinematic metal journey of emotions.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
It’s very atmospheric, impulsive, energetic and interactive.
Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?
We played before in 2011.
How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?
When we were asked to play at the festival. It’s a great honour to play on this tent stage in the memory of Sophie Lancaster. The tent itself works nicely especially for our atmospheric light show we are bringing along. Hopefully Sophie will listen and like our show as well!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Our new album The Forest Seasons is coming out on the 21st of July so a great bombastic contrast of fresh new material as well as older material will be played.
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
We’re always interested to see other bands, but we are coming to play for the people and enjoy a great moment together so that is the most important. If I miss another band, it does not matter.
What are you working on at the moment?
Multi-tasking: writing this interview and rehearsing at the same time!!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
Singing half-naked on stage Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone” with buddies.
Jäger, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
Hobgoblin Ale!
