#ROADTOBOA2017 – Wind Rose

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Wind Rose – SOPHIE Stage, Thursday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Ciao! We are based in Pisa, Italy, the leaning tower, you know?

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We play all together since September 2009, when our first show as Wind Rose took place.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It comes from the fact that we love journeys, and our music represents a journey itself, a journey through many styles of music and many lyrical themes.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

In my opinion what makes our music unique is the fact that we are able to mesh up many things together such as epic strings, death metal guitar riffs and drums and folkloristic instruments. Another strength of the band is the fact that the songs often have a complex structure but are easy to listen to.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Mainly because we are also able to play our songs pretty well on stage; we also make people move all the time with a show that never gets boring; eventually, the dwarves’ dresses are so cool to be seen live!

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

No we didn’t, this will be our first time ever in the UK.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

We had been contacted by the organizer via email during the first weeks of May.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

You have to expect us to play the most known songs from Wardens of the West Wind (“Rebel and Free”, “The Breed of Durin” and “The Age of Conquest” most likely) and the strongest songs from Stonehymn.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

There’s no main stage on Thursday so the only other band we’ll see is Battle Beast. If I could stay more at the festival I would be so excited to see mainly Ghost and Wintersun.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are working on a European tour to be scheduled for Winter/Spring 2018 and on a new album of course.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We made the crowd do a massive wall of death at a festival in Italy in 2015; there were something like 600 persons taking part, one of them broke an arm… He recovered well, btw!

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

Kaltenberg! Cheers, Claudio
