As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Twisted Illusion– Jägermeister Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Manchester, UK.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
That’s not as simple a question as it really should be. No comment!
Where does the name of the band come from?
I don’t remember, names are irrelevant. We could be called “Matt and the piss kidneys” for all I care.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We don’t sound like some other cunt. We aren’t boxed in by genre, we have been compared to everyone from Rush, Judas Priest and Coheed and Cambria. We are progressive by virtue of the fact we have a myriad of influences as a unit and it really does create something special in my eyes.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Because I shout at them if they don’t. We are so used to playing shows as we had all gigged heavily for years before Twisted Illusion even existed so a live setting is always a comfortable place for us.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
My first time was last year supporting my friends in Vice playing the Jager stage. Was immense, weekend of my life, and I am absolutely honoured to be asked to play such an iconic metal festival.
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
We actually played M2TM in Manchester in 2016 and failed miserably. Nine months later we were asked to play “on the basis of our music” which is really the ultimate compliment anyone can ask for and vindicates us not getting through via a competition.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Nothing like Bloodstock will be expecting, and a special cover.
Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
I don’t care, fuck em, my set is more important. Queen could clash with me and I’d still try and out sing Freddie with his stupid yellow coat.
What are you working on at the moment? I see you have a new album due in September, are there plans to tour around it when it’s released?
The next record beyond the double album is ready, we just don’t have funds to record it. We plan to gig heavily on the back of September’s release yes, excited to see what people think.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
The Working Man. They started a conga which featured the raping of a keyboard player in a wolf costume. Top that.
Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
Hobgoblin, don’t be silly! ;)
