As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Solar Sons – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – Where are you guys from?
We live in Dundee but were all brought up in a town up north called Elgin.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
It will be three years in August (2017).
Where does the name of the band come from?
We wanted something spacey to represent our music (Solar) and something to keep it grounded to earth (Sons).
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Two thirds of us have beards sometimes. Our music reflects this, cosmically.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We aim to hold the audience and take the crowd on an epic trip with our music. We have a more traditional sound when compared to most other upcoming bands and offer a refreshing and exciting experience for a broad range of heavy music fans.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
This will be our first time at Bloodstock. Goes without saying that we are very excited!
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?
I think there has to be a bit of that when entering a competition like this especially given the stakes. We love playing live and always try to put on a good show but an opportunity like Bloodstock M2tM definitely pushes you to play your best. We won in Inverness.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Expect a classic heavy metal sound with a cosmic twist. Anthemic vocals, big riffs & proggy interludes galore! Solo’s to melt ones face, drums thundering up your pants, bass rumbling your wobbly bits and all the space goo to fill your cup to the brim.
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
We’re on the Saturday so probably Havok or Annihilator. Most excited to see Testament and Megadeth.
What are you working on at the moment?
We have been recording our second album and it’s nearly finished!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
We are far too sensible for any wild banter and unruly shenanigans.
Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
Hobgoblin Ale
