#ROADTOBOA2017 – Silverchild

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Silverchild – Jägermeister Stage, Sunday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Stoke on Trent.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

It was just Alex and Vic for the first year, we jammed and found the right line up, but we’ve been gigging around the UK for three years now.

Where does the name of the band come from?

When we were choosing a name we felt Silverchild perfectly described us because we were kids that had a real passion for music from before our time.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We take influence from the hard rock legends of the 70s but we really dig stoner rock and the Palm Desert scenes, so we have a bit of a melding style which is anchored in the both the present and the past.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Our performances have been described as fierce. Quite often people tell us that they see the two girls in the band show up and they expect a tamer show than they get. We are very happy to challenge that preconception.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Yes we have and Bloodstock is our favourite! It’s one of few festivals in the UK that really supports the rock scene from its roots. We always come away with loads of new bands to watch out for and gig with, as well as it’s always great to see friends that you have made along the way getting the recognition they deserve!

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

We had been lucky enough to have been asked to play in the Serpent’s Lair stage earlier in the year by Griz (he’s a sterling chap for those few that don’t know him already!) but we were absolutely thrilled when we found out that we had also been selected for the Jagermeister stage by Simon Hall meaning that everyone would have access to the show!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

To quote the ultimate wisdom of Monty Python… ‘And now for something completely different’.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

We’re playing on Sunday so we have our fingers and toes crossed that we will be able to see Obituary, and also catch Broken Teeth! We like to keep it varied!

What are you working on at the moment?

After a long search earlier in the year we found an exceptionally talented drummer to join our ranks. We’re half way into writing our next record Pluto Pass and we aim to be in the studio again at the end of the year.  For those of you who heard our last EP Red Desert you can expect the same heat but with a more bluesy emphasis.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

We tend not to drink until we have played our set for the night, but then it’s game on! After playing earlier at an all-dayer in Manchester which Mars Red Sky headlined, we were nice and merry when they finished their set… but nobody was ready to finish partying so the promoter asked us to go back on stage again to play! Despite the drunkeness, the stage invasion, and not being able to see each other, we somehow managed to keep it together for the duration and it turned out to be our favourite show ever. There’s something truly joyous about being able to play your music whilst being surrounded by smiling friends and idols alike!

Jäger, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

JÄGER, JÄGER, JÄGER!
