#ROADTOBOA2017 – Lionize

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Lionize – Sophie Lancaster Stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Silver Spring, in Maryland, USA –  just outside of Washington DC.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We’ve been together for about twelve years now.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The name of the band came to us simultaneously in a dream.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We are a four-piece rock band with heavy emphasis on organ and vocal harmonies. What makes us unique is who we are individually and how we play, and how it comes together as a group after so many years of playing together.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

The live show is heavy and exciting. We like to keep it moving, keep people grooving. Lots of fun, lots of solos, lots of epic!

Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?

We have not but we’re very stoked for the opportunity!

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

I guess we got a phone call from our agent a few months ago. We’re so thankful for any/every opportunity to bring our music to new people.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

The set list will consist of mostly unreleased material from our new record, which we consider our best. We expect to play to a lot of people who have never heard us before, so we want to show them our absolute best material. The album comes out on September 8th, and is called Nuclear Soul.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

I’ve never seen Megadeth. That would be cool.

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment we’re practising hard to take this new record on tour! And getting ready to release it! We just put out a video for our new song “Blindness To Danger”, which guest stars pro-wrestler Almighty Sheik [scroll down… – Mosh].

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

The first time anyone ever set off a flare during a Lionize show was in Greece. That’s not so crazy for a lot of bands. But it stands out as being a particularly awesome moment for us.

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

Speaking for everyone I think we’d go with Bulleit.
