#ROADTOBOA2017 – Electric Mother

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Electric Mother – Jägermeister Stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Orkney, which is a group of islands off the north coast of Scotland.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

The band started around about spring/summer of 2014 and I (guitarist, Robert MacGregor) joined officially in February of 2015.

Where does the name of the band come from?

I think our name came from Pandy – our other lead guitarist, as it best suited the style of music and types of riff we’re writing – although I may have just made that up!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Groove-laden heavy rock/metal best describes us and we’re totally unique in as we’re not part of any scene due to our location. This tends to lead to us generally being underestimated by other bands and crowds.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Our live performances are always great fun, they’re very energetic and high octane fuelled – so there’s never a dull moment. We focus on the power of our music and people will watch us because we are different, fresh and always put on a great show.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

I don’t think any of us have been to Bloodstock actually, plenty of other gigs and festivals over the years though. I do know, however, that we’re all really looking forward to it!

Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?

This was our second year entering M2TM and we knew we had a good a chance as any of winning, we did however up our game immensely as we knew competition was going to be very tough. We didn’t actually win our region (!) which was the Inverness M2TM, but we were asked to come and play on the Jäger stage by Simon Hall.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Folk can expect a full on setlist of mainly new material along with maybe one track off our debut CD. Our setlist showcases our talent as performers and musical direction.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Personally I’d really like to see Testament and Decapitated, so fingers crossed our set doesn’t collide with either of theirs.

What are you working on at the moment?

Currently we’re working on our second album – a majority of which is already in our current set. That and also pushing our music to new people and gigging new places.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

I couldn’t possibly comment on the wildest thing I’ve seen/done! But there’s been a few!

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

  • Jager – yes
  • Hobgoblin Ale – yes
  • Kraken – yes
  • Kingstone Press Cider – yes
  • Kaltenberg Beer – yes
  • Bulleit Bourbon – Not a huge fan, but why the hell not!
