As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
BloodThread– Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Friday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Like Connor Macleod said in Highlander, “Lots of different places”. Scottish Borders, Central Scotland and Ireland to be precise.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
This iteration has been together for about three years and a “bit”.
Where does the name of the band come from?
From a pile of suggestions, the rest of which we sold off to other bands. “Necrotic Groove-Masters of Death Funk” still owe us our money!
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
It’s somehow genre-defying, even though if one progressively adds a technical description, it’s “death metal” (see what we did there). We’re not really like anyone else because we’re in ways heavier, more complex and also unexpectedly more musical than most brutal death metal bands.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Very, very, very sweaty. Stand back!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
(insert sad face here) No…
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?
We really believe in our music and our live show and we were desperate to win and play the New Blood Stage. We played Carlisle; which is close to where a few of our members currently live (in Dumfries).
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Thirty minutes of very heavy, progressive music played with a sort of physical intensity that you don’t normally see with such complex music. We’ll be bringing our very heaviest set… Be prepared!
Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Decapitated. They have a stunning live show and the new material sounds ferocious. I think we’d all really love to see them this year.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re primarily honing our set, making it as tight as possible. We’ve also got some new material we’ve been developing, that continues in a similar vein to our latest EP, Era of Corruption.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?
The lad at Siege of Limerick last year, that broke his nose at the start of our set… He just wiped the copious amount of blood away from his face, chest, arms and then started moshing in the pit as if nothing happened. After our set when we asked if he was ok, with dried blood all matted into his chest hair, he calmly said that he was fine and that we deserved it! You sir, are a legend!
Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
That’s a hard one… There’s one there for literally each of us! But seeing as I (Chris) am typing this, I’m gonna go with the Bulleit Bourbon!
