Band of the Day / Interview – The Bad Flowers

The Bad Flowers 192Time to meet another new (to us at least) band. Welcome The Bad Flowers. Take it away guys…

Simple things first – where are you guys from? How did you meet?

We’re from a town called Cannock in the Midlands, it’s where myself (Tom) and Dale grew up, Karl is from Rugby. We got together as a band when other projects we were in came to a finish, then me and Dale started looking for a drummer, Karl offered to come and try out and he was a perfect fit! We’d played with his old band once before and that’s how we got together.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

This line up has been going a little over 2 years. It’s been awesome so far, can’t wait to see what the next few years have install.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

It was a lyric I had in a old old song, and it always kinda stuck in my head so when we were deciding on a name for the band, which to me is the hardest thing to do when your starting a new band, I pitched the idea to the lads and it just stuck.

What are your influences – individually or as a band?

We’re all influenced by similar stuff really, we’ve all been brought up on the classic bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath etc so that has a huge influence on us, but we all big into a lot of new bands to like Rival sons, monster truck, Crobot, Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown…. The list goes on!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Do you have any particular lyrical themes? Not really themes as such I don’t think, just whatever’s going on in our lives/minds at the time. I’ve always got lyrics bouncing around in my head though, just small things can strike up a whole song idea.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

The live show is high energy from start to finish, we try and be as explosive as we can on stage. We’ve done a fair amount of shows in the 2 years we’ve been together I think at count we’re getting towards if not over 200!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I think one thing that always sticks out to me is a few years ago I went to see The Subways play at The Venue in Derby, that place has rafters! So Billy scaled the bass amp got onto the rafters in the roof climbed so he was over the crowd and just dropped into them! Pretty mad!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I mainly use a Les Paul for everything but I have telecasters too, and I go through an orange OR50 which I’ve recently had and absolutely love it! Dale uses a jazz bass through an Orange ad200 and Karl’s on Tama Drums.

What are your plans for 2016?

2016 is looking like a good one! We’ve got a couple of decent festival appearances coming up, a new EP coming out and we’re going to be doing 3 dates with Crobot on their UK tour in June! 21st in Milton Keynes, 22nd in Birmingham and 23rd in London.

If you could be part of any 3-band line-up (as support or headlining) who else would you have on the bill?

I think we’d love to be on the same bill and Monster Truck and Rival Sons, that would be awesome.
