Due to the huge number of bands playing at Bloodstock this year, and the fact that our two roving reporters will actually want to watch some of them, we’re doing a little round of pre-festival interviews this year. We’re focussing on the bands playing the Jagermeister and Hobgoblin New Blood Stages so they get a chance to convince you to go and watch them. Remember, these guys and gals are the future of our musical world!

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Somewhere far across the crystal seas, through the black winds and the emerald valleys, in a place where steel is king. Only there can the true prophets of metal be born.

How did you meet?

We met on English ground in a back stage room, we heard the sound, and we all knew what we had to do!

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Much like time itself, Hanowar is an entity that is difficult to quantify in absolute terms. Mere mortals would see our two years together as fairly brief, but in the outer reaches of the universe where we were forged over millennia by the gods themselves, two earth years is an eternity and more. (Two years)

Where does the name of the band come from?

From deep within the scrolls of the great old ones, the oath was found and foretold that the band to bring the power of true metal and glory to the world would be ‘Hanowar’.

What are your influences – individually or as a band?

Heavy metal, beer and leather.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our musical style can only be described as a mix of true metal and steel.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Our live show needs to be seen to be believed. Pyro straight from the dragon’s mouth, Swords mightier than Excalibur, and riffs so monstrous that the whole world will shake! Prepare for a show so powerful that your unborn children will hear the tales of when Hanowar brought true metal to the world!

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

We received the call via the eagles of email, telling us that a band of mighty warriors was required at Bloodstock! Battle Hymns did sound the call, and we came to Bloodstocks side! To play true metal, into glory ride!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

The truest of the true. Power, glory, and metal!

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

I’m sure this question is meant to be worded “Which main stage band most hopes they don’t clash with us”! And we’re sure the answer would be Within Temptation, as they fear that we’ll take their headline crowd!

What are you working on at the moment?

We are working on becoming louder, and making our stage shows more and more impressive! Bigger pyro! Shorter Loin Cloths! Faster drums of doom! And who knows, maybe another EP of steel, should we wish to bestow the world with our true metal again.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done on tour?

Once Karl ‘Logan’ Woods tore the heart straight out of a dragon and fed it to the crowd. That was mental.

What advice would you give to a young band just starting out today?

Drink lots of beer, and listen to true metal. Change out of those cracker-jack clothes and get into some leather and spikes! Stop being a wimp and a poser and blow your speakers!

If you could be part of any 3-band line-up who else would you have on the bill? One band above you and one below – a chance to plug a smaller, unsigned act!

Manowar, Hanowar, and a Hanowar cover band.

Hanowar headline the Jagermeister Stage on the Saturday.
