Interview: Joakim Brodén of Sabaton

Sabaton - Joakim 192MoshApologies for the delay getting this interview up – between work overload and illness, the backlog has built up once again! However, here we go – thanks to James. Without him and his brand new toy (a shiny recorder) this interview would not be here. Being a complete dick, I rebuilt my mobile over the weekend… and forgot to back up the sound files first. Oops. Thankfully, James had his recording and in all honesty it’s better quality than mine would have been anyway.

But the interview! Joakim was a great guy to spend fifteen minutes with and became the inaugural signee (that is now a word) of the Moshville Times Charity Autograph Poster. More about this in the new year…

We had a blast talking about noise restrictions, mole rats slaying crew members and future touring companions being blasted in the testicles by streamer cannon. Mainly, though, we focussed on the recent album Heroes. Where did the idea for the album itself and the individual songs come from? In particular, it turns out that “The Ballad of Bull” has an interesting tale about its development.

Joakim’s attitude comes across as that of a guy who’s loving doing what he’s doing, and he (and every other member of Sabaton) certainly looked the part later in the evening. He’s chatty, cheerful, humorous and a great guy to have had the chance to talk to. Here’s looking forward to the next album and tour in… well, listen towards the end to find out!

P.S. Apologies for background noise and my own rushed chatter – I realised we were rushed for time as Joakim had another interview to cram in before sound-check!
