In a week where we saw Kerry King release his first solo single, we also became aware of a “super group” who’ve released a short album of very, very, very slow doom-style Slayer covers. Slower’s Slower is out now, and I’ve plucked “War Ensemble” from it as it’s one of my favourite songs. Scroll down to have a listen, then tinker with the play speed. It’s impressive that it works at so many speeds, including the vocals, with 2x being about the same as the original.
I’d never have thought that Slayer would work on the “slow and ethereal” level, and that’s what make these such great cross-genre covers.
- Esben Willems (drums – Monolord)
- Peder Bergstrand (bass – Lowrider)
- Amy Barrysmith (vocals – Year of the Cobra)
- Laura Pleasants (vocals – Kylesa)
- Bob Balch (guitars – Fu Manchu)
- Scott Reeder (bass – Kyuss)
