Classic Covers: Black Spiders – “Good Times” (original by The Easybeats)

Ross actually featured this song a month back when the then-upcoming release of Black Spiders’ new EP Deaf Proof (out now, digital only) and still-upcoming album (self-titled, March 26th) were announced. However, since then a video has emerged and I wanted to give it the focus it deserves as it’s a damn fine cover of a quality original song.

“Good Times”, the 1968 hit for The Easybeats (written by George Young – Angus and Malcolm’s older brother), is a cracking rock number and Black Spiders have really ramped it up with modern production. While the original was certainly not lacking anything in terms of sheer rock, the Spiders’ take on it really is individual. Faithful but with enough worthwhile changes that don’t make you wonder “why the hell did they do that?”, it’s a number that’s bound to get crowds going mental once we’re allowed crowds again.

It’s a great lockdown video as well, with band each in their own households with some family members putting in an appearance! Unfortunately we’ve not been able to add it to our “Classic Covers” YouTube playlist as it’s so family-friendly they’ve tagged it as “made for children” and you’re not allowed to save those. Boo!
