We’re heading to one of my favourite countries today, and encountering a new band (to me) who are pushing their new album. Here’s more about Blax and the music they play…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Hello we are Blax from Italy!
How did you meet?
Obviously, music! Our adventure started in March 2020 when our singer and songwriter Giampaolo Polidoro, alias Blax, started to collaborate with our guitarist Marco Fanella, alias Hektor, for the recording of the first demotape which later became the music you can listen through our album Meravilia recorded during 2021. The BLAX project became a family in 2022 when the drummer Massimiliamo Bergo (alias Argex), the bass player Giulia Balestrieri (alias Katla), and the guitarist Emil Dellantonio (alias Hexen) joined the band. Recently, in 2024 our new drummer Luca Urbinati (alias Anon) joined the family.
How long have you been playing as a band?
So, we are playing since 2022 as a band.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
The name Blax was spontaneously born while trying to grasp in its meaning between dark and black, intending a “black” soul.
What are your influences?
The gothic sound is inspired by artist like Alice Cooper, and than the 80s hard rock music is a source of inspiration for our sound.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
The most appropriate way to call our music is “Hard Goth” as the gothic influences meet a hard rock inspired sound. Our goth theatrical image that reflects the sound and tells story about our family/band makes us unique.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Yes, our songs are meant to tell the stories around the Blax family.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Our show is like a theatrical representation, we like to act while playing. We played about 20 shows.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
For us, the wildest thing was seeing people singing our songs, it was an incredible filling, really.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
We have two guitars, bass and drum.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We are promoting our album Meravilia and the videoclipas related to two songs of the album “Our Brain Conditions” and “Shady Life”.
What are your plans for 2024?
The plans are the release of our second album and playing live as much as possible.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mates band we’ve not heard of before!
If we could choose, we would be the supporting band of Ghost band because the atmosphere of their music perfectly fits our “Hard Goth”. The third band, which would open to us could be a mate’s band with which we shared a tour in Bulgaria, they are a Finnish metal band named Pohjoisen Soturit.
