A band from just round the corner (from us, anyway), and with an EP just out, Since 2000 have been playing together since… well. We’ll let them tell you…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re based in Glasgow!
How did you meet?
Our singer Dan moved to the city and started releasing music and playing shows as a solo artist. He reached out and connected with our guitarist Ben who was also looking to join a new band, then through those early shows we met second guitarist Will and drummer Reuben and they were brought in to complete the line up!
How long have you been playing as a band?
The four of us played live together for the first time in November of last year, but we played our first show as Since 2000 at the start of 2024.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
The name got thrown out during a brainstorming session.
It took a while to settle on Since 2000 as the name but we ultimately decided it was the right fit as it’s representative of the age group of our members, as a name it also felt a little nostalgic but simultaneously very modern, which we think sums up our music pretty well!
What are your influences?
Too many to name in one interview! Some of the artists who influenced our new EP include The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Bring Me the Horizon, Ghost and 100 gecs.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our aim is to be a forward thinking and musically progressive rock band that isn’t afraid to pull influences and ethics from other genres, with the end goal of creating a great song that feels fresh and different.
It’s our approach to this sound that makes us unique, we write pop songs disguised as heavy rock songs.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
All of our lyrics are written about real life experiences that we’ve gone through and what particular difficult moments teach us about ourselves and the world around us.
A lot of the time it’s about looking to find the positive in the negatives we experience. Pain can be your biggest teacher!
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Pretty energetic and fun! We always work to get the crowd involved, how responsive the audience is determines how good the show is for us.
So far we’ve played two live shows as Since 2000.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Some of us saw the band San José play an opening set at the Garage in Glasgow last year, we’ve never seen such a chaotic opener before! Two songs in and the singer was crowd surfing back and forth across the entire room, the atmosphere was pretty insane!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Both our guitarists use Helix Multi FX Pedalboards for shows that plug straight into the sound desk.
We use a backing track system and we’re about to add in a Roland SPD sample pad to our live show which our drummer will play, so we get to incorporate more of the electronics live.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We released our debut EP neverland, chapter I on March 29th. We’ve been working on this EP for the last few years and we’re really excited to finally get it out there!
We also have a new song out called “hello” – which is taken from the EP.
What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?
To get our EP out and get as many ears on it as possible! In the meantime we’re working on finishing new music before the summer and making some pretty exciting live show plans for later in the year!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Opening for Dios, supporting with D-CNTR
