Headline Act: Kayron

It’s always nice to stretch your legs and find somewhere new. Today we’re heading over to Italy to chat to Kayron…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are Italians and we live in the frenetic metropolis of Milan!

How did you meet?

Ettore: Jack and I met in high school. Since day one, we haven’t stopped listening to all metal music together. We met Gio when we’re looking for a bass player, we immediately understood that he is a very good person and a very good bass player!

How long have you been playing as a band?

Jack: Considering the various line-up mutations of the band, we have been playing live for about  9 years. At first we mostly played covers, but then we started creating our own songs.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Gio: Kayron is an artistic distortion of the word “Kairos” that in ancient Greece meant “right or opportune time” and was used to indicate a moment of an indefinite period of time in which “something” special it happens. Meaning we don”t mind at all!

What are your influences?

Jack: Our influences are of course Metallica, Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold,

Machine Head, Volbeat, Destrage, Protest The Hero, Mastodon but also Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai, Bob Marley, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elvis Presley, Pino Daniele and all the rest of “old but gold” italian music.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Gio: We really like mixing different music styles with metal to make it more melodious and harmonious without becoming too fossilized with aggressive sounds. The sure thing I can say is that we try to surprise ourselves and thus surprise the listener, musically and emotionally.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Ettore: Lirically, we explore all the things we fear, the things we don’t understand, the feelings and the thoughts we have inside towards the outside. We like to ride through the absurd and the real, which are both interchangeable and confuseable.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Jack: We have a lot of live experience! During our lives we always try to create a lot of energy and empathy with our audience by playing our songs at their best. Headbanging and Pogo are always under the stage!

We like to have fun trying to break some eardrums!

What’s the wildest  thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Ettore: Once I went on stage completely drunk and during the concert I fell off my stool and lost my sticks… What a shame! I will never do that again ahah!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Jack: Solar Baritone A2.6FB and Pedalboard Line 6 Pod Go.

Gio: Ibanez BTB845, and Pedalboard EBS microbass 3.

Ettor: Ludwig drum Zildjian cymbals an pro-mark sticks.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Gio: Through the “RockOn” agency we are trying to promote our music on a European level. We use all the opportunities such as social networks and web magazines to make ourselves known, trying to reach the furthest ears.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

Jack: We are trying to organize the autumn/winter live season, at themoment it’s a work in progress, but of course the live shows are our priority. Anyway, we do have something already boiling in thepot… pretty hot!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Ettore: our mentality is certainly inclusive, we always try to understand and accommodate as many wishes and opportunities as possible. it’s always right to give emerging bands an opportunity to express themselves on various stages, the important thing is to be professional.
