Headline Act: Templemind

It’s always nice to stretch your legs and your mind. Templemind sounds like he could very much help with the latter. Give his words a read, and his music a listen!

Simple things first – where are you from?

I was born and raised in Germany. Lived and made music for many years in Berlin until I moved to Los Angeles to continue my work. Since 2020 I am back in Europe and writing and doing studio work between London and Germany to create my music.

How long have you been playing as a solo act?

My first Single “Union Divine” was released on April 15th which was the o cial starting point for Templemind. I started writing at the beginning of 2022.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

I was on an intensive introspective journey for 3 months that included at the peak a 10-hour meditation session and also some days of juice and water fasting. At the very end, in the final days, the name came to me in Minneapolis where I had played a Sound-Healing and Meditation Event in a beautiful theatre for 2 nights. The name is about making your Mind into a Temple where only your highest truth may be allowed and keeping any doubts, shame, and negativity out. This is the daily holy war. We can do this.

Templemind [/ˈtemp(ə)lmaɪnd/] noun – a state of being where the inner and outer reality, is observed from pure acceptance, love, and unity.

What are your influences?

I grew up listening to MTV in the 90s! I loved Michael Jackson, Roxette, David Bowie, Bryan Adams and Sting but also Bon Jovi, Metallica and OMD! I remember so vividly performing with a tennis racquet on my bed as a 6-year-old and mimicking Chesney Hawkes “The One And Only”. I was pretty shy back then and nobody was allowed to enter the room to watch me. Luckily that has changed!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

The sound of Templemind is very energetic, bold and epic, with deeply personal lyrics. I love combining big synth and guitar sound walls with orchestral arrangements and contemporary 808 beats and percussion mixed with hard-hitting rock drums. Imagine: David Bowie meets 30 Seconds to Mars and the Scorpions.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

My inner world. Everything that moves me deeply. Emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and even physically. I feel it ́s the only thing that makes sense to me what I can write about. All the experiences that I had during the years, the ups and downs and bringing my own view of life to the table.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

The concerts are high energy events and are almost curated to be ceremonies for communion and union with our own best unique selves and expressions through sharing in the power of music with transcendental and uplifting frequencies between the songs. The event loves, embraces, and accepts all. It explore the edges of human existences and it inspires new thoughts.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Playing at Rock am Ring, Germany ́s biggest Rock and alternative festival with all my favorite bands from Papa Roach, to Bring me the Horizon, Korn, Shinedown, Limp Bizkit and so many more.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I’m playing Sandberg basses and ESP & Ortega guitars. All with Elixir strings. I’m also an avid user of the Slate Audio and Slate Digital products for ages.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

I just released my single “More to this Life”. This single set the tone for the whole project as it was the first song I wrote! It was guided by Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic and is a life-affirming anthem, with a super hooky guitar riff and evoking lyrics that will make you rethink your life! The lyric video is coming on December 23rd and the full-on music video with my bandmates on January 1st 2023! Super exciting!

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

There are so many exciting things on the horizon: First of all, I am working on my album and the next singles! As I’m producing it myself I’m currently in pre-production and finalization of the arrangements. There are also very special online and community events planned and I am also excited about the upcoming music video of my current single “More To This Life” which will be released 1st of January!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

I would love to support 30 Seconds to Mars and if I can take a buddy with me on that bill it would be Jagwar Twin, an amazing uplifting newcomer band from LA of my dear friend Roy English. You gotta check them out!
