Headline Act: Collected

Six months after their last release, “Mountains”, noisy rock brigade Collected are about to assault our earholes with some new tuneage. Read a bit more about them and the upcoming sonic feast below…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Clacton-on-Sea/Colchester Essex.

How did you meet?

We met through school, football, being related (Charlie and Chris are brothers) and through gigging.

How long have you been playing as a band?

With this line up, minus Chris, about 7 years now.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

We wanted a name that stood for the different backgrounds and influences each member brings to the band, and something that was one word and easy to remember if someone had never heard of us before. So, after much deliberation, we decided on Collected. It is simple, but we thought it covered everything we were looking for in a name.

What are your influences?

Wow there is so many, probably our main ones though are Sleep Token, Meshuggah, Thundercat, Mitch Murder, Coheed and Cambria, Kanye West, Red Sparowes.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’re a very dynamic band, we like to keep people guessing and play with the ups and downs of a song. As well we’re not afraid to add in elements from other genres that we like, for instance our upcoming single has a drum and bass section that we’re really excited for people to hear.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

It’s usually based in personal experience, but sometimes they’ll be a fictional story behind it, like our song mountains for example is a fictional sci-fi space story.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

All or nothing energy, we always leave everything we have on the stage. Must be hitting the 50+ mark now.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Our vocalist Liam stage dived and got carried to the bar and back but nearly got dropped and died in the process, that was wild haha

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Don’t know the specifics of the model but I know it’s a Yamaha kit, guitars are Ibanez and Strandberg.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We have a new single coming out on the 30th of September called “Mindset” that we’re incredibly excited about, it’ll be available on all streaming platforms. [Including YouTube… scroll down and bookmark it! – Mosh]

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

Mostly writing new material and gigging, hopefully get on some more festival bills for next year, we had the privilege of playing the New Blood stage at Bloodstock this year and it was the best experience!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Wow that’s a tough one, I’d say to support Loathe as they’re one of the best bands in the scene right now and we share certain elements with them sound wise. Opening I’d say spoiler, had the pleasure of gigging with them for our EP show, they’re the soundest guys and their music is beyond brutal, everyone needs to check them out, incredible band!
