Headline Act: The Final Clause Of Tacitus

It’s nice to keep your eye on the home grown talent, and we’ve heard of this bunch before. It’s about time we found out more about them (and that curious name!)…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are mainly from Reading, in Berkshire but Andy (bassist) is slightly further afield in Milton Keynes.

How did you meet?

When the band first was formed by Tom and our drummer back then, Luke, who knew Andy from a previous band and got him onboard. They then put out an advert looking for a vocalist online which Matt answered. Luke ending up leaving the band after a year and we brought on a drummer (Daryl) who has now parted ways as well which leave us a three piece for now.

How long have you been playing as a band?

5 years.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

When the band was first forming with Tom (guitarist) and Luke who was the drummer at the time. They had a few songs formed and realised they were onto something and decided they needed a band name, so Luke told Tom to come up with something ‘short and sweet’. Tom being Tom, did the exact opposite. Tacitus was a Roman historian so his final clause would have been the fall of the Roman empire.

What are your influences?

A random cocktail of influences such as Alkaline Trio, (Hed P.E), RATM, RHCP who are all musical influences that play a part in our music style or writing.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We combine funky upbeat fun music with hard aggressive metal. Add a bit of rap and some metal vocals and you have the unique sound that makes you want to dance and fight all at the same time.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Most of my lyrics are about self-politics, but I write about whatever affects me. Whatever moves me, or gets my emotions going, whether that be sad, happy or angry. I write it down.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Best word to describe it is ‘energy’. We put our whole selves up on that stage and leave dripping sweaty suits of our former selves. We’ve played way over 200 shows by now, stopped counting though.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Andy fell off a stage in Oxford. Which was great cos we hadn’t even started. Then, when it came to it, we couldn’t even play because they had set the stage up so there wasn’t enough power for the guitar amps. It was a nightmare. Andy sprained his ankle too. Very funny though.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Fender Telkecaster through a Hughes and Ketnes Tube master 36/2×12 H&K cabinet.

Ibanez SDGR BASS through a TC Electronic combo 450 in line with a Eden preamp.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Our new EP Asinine Music for the Solemn and Staid is being released this May and our first single Something’s Gonna Break” is out now! Go get it!

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

Concentrate on plugging away for the EP and do some auditions for drummers and get one trained dup ready for when gigs start going again.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Support Rage Against the Machine with a band called Mother Vulture opening. They are an amazing rock band from Bristol, and we thought we had energy on stage until we played with them. They’re frickin crazy! Amazing band and we actually did a collab on our new EP with the vocalist from that band. Check ‘em out.
