Headline Act: MOY

With an EP just released for everyone to check out, what better time to have a chinwag with MOY – a band who aren’t sure if their national animal is the kiwi or the haggis…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

A mix of New Zealand and Scotland.

How did you meet?
We were put in contact through a mutual friend.

How long have you been playing as a band?

About 2 and a half years.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

It was our favourite from a giant list of names we had been making for months.

What are your influences?

A lot of influence comes from life, observations, and experiences.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

It’s difficult to describe, it’s not one thing or another but a combination of the elements we all bring to the table.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Usually they gravitate towards self experience.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We have unfortunately only played 5 times so far, but the live show is electric.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We went to see a band which had backing dancers dressed as shrimp and squids.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I play a fender pawn shop strat,

Ruaraidh – Custom Shop Stratocaster

Chris – Custom Deluxe Telecaster

Lewis – Sandberg California

Alex – Tama Superstar

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Our debut EP Don’t Look Back which came out on the 26th of Feb.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

We will be writing and recording as much as possible, waiting for the world to go back to normal.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We would love to support the Arctic Monkeys and have Tom Brosseau open.
