Headline Act: Onydia

Crunching guitars, heavy rhythms and operatic vocals your thing? Then you’ve come to the right place as Onydia’s singer Eleonora Buono answers our Headline Act questions…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Italy, precisely from Rome, but I am Sicilian.

How did you meet?

We met each other through music, we started playing together in other bands in 2014

How long have you been playing as a band?

We’ve been playing together as Onydia since 2016.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The name Onydia comes from the combination of two Greek words and means “transparent dream”, it consists in the display of something surreal in the real world, like our music.

What are your influences?

At the beginning our main influences were melodic and symphonic prog, and a little bit of pop and jazz, now there are djent, new soul, pop and hard core.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our contrasting souls that dance on our notes and draw our sensitivity and desire to live this life, which is full of good and bad things.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

I’ve always wanted to talk about the inner work that each of us does in our lives for peace of mind and awareness of ourselves.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Our show is like our music, powerful and sensitive, full of the essence of the word Onydia.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

There are no crazy things on stage in my opinion, it is never enough.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I’m the singer of this band and I use in-ear monitor, shure sm58 and red long hair for headbanging, perfect kit for a metal/letal live around the world on every type of stage in my opinion!

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

As a singer I am promoting my method of singing study, I am working on the drafting of the study of singing and the voice connected to the inner balance of the chakras; my bandmates however are way more concentrated on their instruments and new effects to use in the future.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

We are starting to write the new album, we will publish soon the acoustic version of one of our tracks from “Reflections” and a cover of a pop song (Onydia version)

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Band 1: Garden Of Delights or OmegaZero

Band 3: Architects or Monuments
