Another band from Athens… but not that one! Everyday Dogs are grungy in the good way…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?

How did you meet?
Well, I [Jesse Inglima, lead guitarist and backing vocalist] have known my brother [Julian Inglima, lead vocals and rhythm guitarist] for his whole life, and the rest of the members have all been friends we’ve known over the years that we would have fun jamming with.
How long have you been playing as a band?
About 3 years.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
For the first few months that we were a band, we went by a few different band names, all of which were terrible and aren’t even worthy of being repeated. Julian was working on this song, “Everyday Dogs”, which we all really liked the sound of and felt it fit the vibe of the group as a whole. The name is essentially synonymous with ‘average Joe’, meaning we just see ourselves as normal guys who love to play rock ‘n’ roll.
What are your influences?
We’ve experimented with different sounds across our releases. Our early stuff had a lot of garage rock mixed with some pop sensibility, but we’ve progressively shifted into heavier territory in recent months.
As a band, we pull heavily from the grunge era of the ‘90s. I can confidently say that Julian pulls a lot of his vocal influence from guys like Chris Cornell and Layne Staley.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We like to call ourselves, “High-Octane Rock ‘N’ Roll”. That just means we play with an insane amount of energy, and we like our music loud. I think the uniqueness factor simply comes from the way we play.
There’s not a lot of bands that I’ve seen on our level that can do what we do in a live performance, pulling off big guitar solos and loud riffs while still keeping a crowd engaged.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Not particularly. Every song is different, and either myself or Julian writes the lyrics to best fit the music. Our song topics have been everything from partying, good relationships, bad relationships, anxiety, and loneliness.
We’ve gotten a little bit more ambitious and thematic in our writing with our recent songs. Our newest song, “Black Fire”, is about Dracula, and we have an unreleased 11-minute epic called “Shutting Down” about the Mars Rover, so it’s been fun to push ourselves into creative writing territory with our lyrics.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
I mentioned it earlier, but we get loud, and we give it everything we’ve got on stage. We learned early on that if you’re being super energetic, then the audience will connect with that and start to get into what you’re doing more, which fuels us as a band to keep raising the energy levels. The result is this reciprocal cycle of both us and the crowd going crazy and having a great time.
To date, we’ve done somewhere around 60 shows/events.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We played a bill at Caledonia Lounge in Athens where one of the singers for another act did the whole set in roller blades, going around the stage and the crowd with them on the whole time.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
I [Jesse] consider my main guitar to be my Epiphone Les Paul Custom Pro. I love the weight and tone to a Les Paul; they just feel like home. I’ve had that guitar for about 5 years now.
I also recently got a Schecter Omen Extreme-6 FR. I wanted a guitar with a Floyd Rose system simply because they’re so much fun.
What are your plans for the next 12 months?
We spent this last year in and out of the studio recording 6 new songs. “Black Fire” is the first of these new songs that we released, and is available now. We also shot a music video this past January for another unreleased song, so that will come out sometime early next year.
As far as other plans, it’s really difficult to say right now due to COVID. Like everyone else in the industry, we’re really hopeful for a major turnaround in the live music scene and getting back to playing venues.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
I personally would absolutely love to be the supporting opener for Royal Blood. They’re one of my favourite groups and I got to see them live in Atlanta a couple years back.
For the other band, we love playing shows with our fellow Athens band, Cosmonot. They’re great guys and have a great rock ‘n’ roll sensibility to their sound and live show.
