In 2016, we featured Tarah Who? for the first time. Then they released some new music so we ran an update. Three years hence, and the buggers are back…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
CH : My name is Coralie and I’m from France, I’m the drummer of Tarah Who?.
TGC: I am Tarah, singer, guitar player. I am also originally from France, from Paris. I moved to Los Angeles in 2006 to pursue my music career.
How did you meet?
CH : Tarah and I were friends on Facebook, I messaged her when I was moving to Los Angeles to study at the Musicians Institute, about the music scene. She hit me up when she was looking for a drummer for her band.
TGC: Yeah pretty much. :)

How long have you been playing as a band?
CH : I joined Tarah Who? Three years ago.
TGC: I started the project in 2006 when I moved, went through a few producers and musicians, and yes, three years ago, Coralie joined the band ( before it became a duo) and now it is just the two of us :)
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
TGC: Ha! Well, it was actually sort of an accident, it was the subject of an email I was sending to previous band members. We had a ton of gigs lined up without even having a band name! We used this just so that we could be on the bill and 14 years later, I still haven’t changed the name! Tara is a Buddhist deity. I am into Buddhism, hence all of the logos and Buddhist influence in some of our designs.
What are your influences?
CH : I’m a big fan of Nightwish, a symphonic band from Finland, I love this genre! More generally I’ll say classic rock and metal.
TGC: I am a 90s, late 80s kid. The Distillers, Motorhead, Pantera, Tool, RATM, Queens of the Stone Age etc…
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
CH : Our sound is a mix between different genres like rock/punk/grunge but at the same time we have our own, it’s heavy and raw.
TGC: I don’t know if it makes us unique, but you have two chicks sounding as loud as a 5 piece on stage. People call us punk because we are raw, but we have some instrumental parts during our live shows. We play how we feel and we don’t try to sound like some other famous band because that’s not who we are or what the song calls.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
TGC: Not a particular theme but it is all autobiographical, or about stories or events that have touched me. Relationships etc…
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
CH : We are giving our best each time, trying to entertain people so hopefully they have a good time!
TGC: Yeah, each show is different and we feed off people’s energy so the crazier our audience is the better show we give! I have stopped counting, to be honest… We like to get people involved, and be in the moment with us.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
TGC: I broke my ankle on the first song of a show from diving off stage and played the whole show on one foot.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
CH : I’m playing a PDP concept maple ( I love it !!), axis pedal, TRX cymbals (awesome !!), DW Hardware, Los Cabos Drumsticks and Remo drumheads.
TGC: Blackstar amps HT club 40 mKii , Fender Vintera, and lead iii , Signature guitar a friend of mine made called Chris Lai, G&L ASAT. Too many pedals to name!
What are your plans for the next 12 months?
TGC: Releasing a new EP . We are currently working on it and it is really exciting! We also have a series of live songs that we are releasing (see below for an example) as well as the fourth episode of our docu-series.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
TGC: Bala ( from Spain) , Yur Mum (from the UK) I don’t care which order, we will all blow your mind!
