Band of the Day: Altribe

Just squeezing today’s BotD in before the midnight hour due to some IT issues (not mine – offspring’s laptop not behaving), but believe me when I say that Altribe are worth the wait… Albert answers our questions.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Athens, Greece

How did you meet?

I started the project, then Fiona joined me (I knew her since her childhood) and the other two guys came via common friends.

How long have you been playing as a band?

The brand has existed since 2010, the specific band since 2014.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Altribe means the tribe of Al(bert).

What are your influences?

They are many: Pop music, jazz music, classical music… Also books we’ve read, drawings we ‘ve seen, etc.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music has a lot of elements: Blues, rock, funk, psychedelic. Trying to be real and original, this makes a person and his work unique.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Not necessarily. Personal, love themes, social ones…

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

I would describe it as a mansion. We have played many shows in small clubs, theatres, festivals.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Pete Townshend (The Who) smashing his guitar.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I play Gabriel drums (Greek manufacturer) / Fender Stratocaster – Ibanez guitars / Fender jazz bass.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Altribe’s latest CD, The Promised Land, Albert Panagiotopoulos’ The Complete Drum Method (bookbaby), and Fiona Lambride’s vocal workshop Find My Voice.

What are your plans for 2020?

We wait to see what’s gonna happen with the live shows, I am preparing a new CD and write poems.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

I have never, really, thought of something like this. The only thing I can say is, when we play with other bands, we can play our socks off, especially if they are good enough. But this happens anyway! Thank you!
