Solo Act of the Day: Vangelis Ziakas

It’s been a bit of a season for solo artists (we had a couple last week as well). As ever, it impresses us that one person can produce a piece of work as all-encompassing and broad as that from a group. Today’s solo star is Vangelis Ziakas…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Hello, I am Vangelis from Athens, Greece.

How long have you been playing as a band?

I have been dealing with music and composition for the last 15 years or so.

What are your influences?

My influences come mainly from hard rock, AOR, and blues music.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

The music I write is a mix of hard rock, stoner and Southern rock.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

The lyrics of my songs have to do with the daily struggle we make to make our dreams come true, love of course, and anything that can inspire me.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

I have done several concerts all these years with different bands, the only thing I can say for sure is that in every concert I try to make people remember it for a long time. We have to make people have a good time.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

The equipment I use in my concerts it is simple, I think. A Gibson Les Paul, a sampler overdrive and a delay.

What are your plans for 2020?

I am currently preparing my first solo album that will be released at the end of the year, with the first single and lyric video already released – “Don’t Leave Me This Way”. The first album with my band The Sleeping Dogs will be released in March 2021.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

If I had the opportunity to choose the two bands I would like to play with at the same festival they would be Cadillac Three and Blackberry Smoke… but I do not know who I would put before or after us!
