Solo Act of the Day: Robyn Ferguson

We don’t often (if ever) come across female solo artists. And this week we’ve had two! Our second hails from further afield than Tuesday’s Madame So, though…

Simple things first – where are you from?

Cape Town, South Africa.

How long have you been playing as a solo act?

About a year and a half solidly.

What are your influences?

I have a huge range of influences but draw inspiration off elements from nature and my own experiences mainly.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

It’s alchemy… Creating and destroying with melody and shred.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Energetic, I run around all over the place. It’s epic but fun. I’ve honestly lost count! But there have been quite a few over the years.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I watched a guy break his knee stage diving… it wasn’t only wild, it was brutal!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I’m thankful to be part of the local Ibanez family and have a few Ibanez electric and bass guitars which I alternate depending on the tone and feel I’m looking for. My other main piece of live and studio kit is my Kemper power rack.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

My new 2 track satellite EP called Harbinger is coming 1st August so remember to grab it on all major platforms when it comes out.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

LOTS of music for the future for sure, this is just the beginning. I’ve always said I want to play on the stages of the world, so I plan to continue to do just that and to keep going until one day when I’m ancient and die with a guitar in my hands. Hopefully it will be possible for 2020 plans which have been made to be postponed rather than cancelled and that we can all safely go to shows again and make memories.

10. If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

I’d love to be opening for Devin Townsend with Daniel Tompkins supporting … I may die from excitement though!
