The sun’s probably still shining in Spain despite it being 10pm as I type this! As well as exporting sunshine, Spain also gives us bands like The 59 Sound…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are based in Málaga, the band is mostly Spanish with Juan Antonio and Yordi on guitars, Jose Manuel on bass, Aurelio on the drums and Dutchman Vic is our vocalist.
How did you meet?
We know each other from the local music scene and from mutual Friends.
How long have you been playing as a band?
The current formation is formed about 3 years ago, with Aurelio on drums and Vic on vocals.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
The 59 Sound is an album title from The Gaslight Anthem which we liked, so we started using it as a band name.
What are your influences?
We like most grunge/alternative rock from the 90’s up until now. Bands like Dredg, Stone Temple Pilots, Foo Fighters, Birds of Tokyo, etc.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our songs are base on a solid rock foundation, but we tend to add great melodies that make us stand out. For instance, the song “Miles Away” has a catchy melody but still brings some solid rock, thanks to the rhythm section.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We try to bring much energy to the stage. So far we have done around 40 gigs with the new lineup.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Every type of gig brings something else, whether it’s a big stage on a festival, or small local pub, we try to blow people away (or at least get them moving) with our energy.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
The guitar players combine PRS and Gibson Les Paul Custom/SG, the bass player uses Fender, and the drummer plays on a PDP by DW.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We have recently launched an EP called Miles Away, which is available on Spotify.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?
Currently we can’t play live, but the moment we can start doing concerts again, we’ll do a promotional tour.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Well, we would love to open for Pearl Jam who are one of the bands that have most influenced us, both musically and personally. And we would love Vegan Wolves (friends from Madrid) to open for us.
