Band of the Day: Stranger Vision

Italy was one of the first countries to go into lockdown and bore the brunt of the European COVID pandemic. The music, however, went on. Bands like Stranger Vision managed to keep producing things to entertain us. Here are a few words from then and links to what they managed to create despite the ongoing situation.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re from Italy.

How did you meet?

We’ve known each other for many years, but we never played together. One year ago, we decided to start writing songs and so we began this project called Stranger Vision.

How long have you been playing as a band?

We started one year ago writing our songs and now we’re recording them at Simone Mularoni’s Domination Studio in San Marino.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

We all are fond of art, music and poetry and think of our music like it’s an artistic vision. So then this is where the name came from.

What are your influences?

Our main influences are the American power metal of Savatage, the European power metal of Blind Guardian and the new melodic metal of Alter Bridge and Disturbed.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We try to produce an original sound with our songs: a melodic heavy metal with the addition of symphony.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Also with the lyrics we tried to be unique. We inspired our lyrics to poems. Sometimes original poems written by our hands. Sometimes famous poems.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We have not played any shows yet due to the Covid lockdown, however we look forward to beginning our live experience. It will be great!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

We use Suhr guitar with Peavy amps, DW drums and Ibanez bass with Ampeg amps.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We should have recorded our album in March but we didn’t can due to lockdown and we postponed it. So we recorded three covers that now we are promoting! The first of these is “Mad World 2020” (Tears For Fears), we also produced a video of the phase 1 of the Italian lockdown on this song.

The second cover is “Moonshield“, an In Flames song, for which we made a full length video. The third brand new song is “Space Oddity” by David Bowie that we published towards the end of July.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

Our main plan is to publish Poetica, our debut album that we now are recording. And to present it to you live!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We would like to support Disturbed or Savatage (if they will reunite). And we would like to share the stage with great Italian metal bands for example: DGM, Trick or Treat or Ancient Bards.
