How did you meet?
We met here in Melbourne. Playing in different bands you get to know people in the scene quickly.
How long have you been playing as a band?
We’ve been playing since 2017.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
It was actually a nickname given to one of the members. It is simple and easy name to remember. Mr.Kill is an idea/concept of an evil guy who does evil things. In the core Mr.Kill is a dude who does whatever he wants when he wants it, hence you see a dude on the EP cover who’s just brought down a city. He could be described as someone you wouldn’t want to mess with.
What are your influences?
Satan, of course…. Just kidding! In high school it was Korn, Metallica, Rammstein, etc. In Uni it was Paradise Lost, Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, Kataklysm, Dark Tranquility, Meshuggah, Hypocrisy, Napalm Death, Arch Enemy, Oscura, Ahab, And Oceans, At The Gates, Bloodbath, Blut Aus Nord, Bolt Thrower, Carcass, Carpathian Forest, Celtic Frost, Dissection, Dying Fetus, Entombed, Evoken, Finntroll, Gorefest, Grave, Immortal, Insomnium, Machine Head, Melechesh, Milking The Goat Machine, Mnemic, My Dying Bride, Napalm Death, Nazxul, Obituary, Pantera, Rob Zombie, Rotten Sound, Rotting Christ, Samael, Septic Flesh, Slayer, Soulfly, Therion, Tryptikon, Vader and many more, there is a long list of awesome artists here which bring many different influences.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our music aims to be heavy & chuggy while maintaining melodic-ness i.e. in the core of a song is a melody. We also aim to be groovy and versatile. We really try not to fit in any particular genre as we find this could impose unnecessary limits on our creativity. It just so happens that our current sound, riffs and structures can be best described as melodic death metal.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Yes, in our debut EP The Day Of Reckoning the focus is in particular on the end of the world apocalypses, destruction, turmoil and the dark side of humanity. Mr.Kill and the whole EP can also be interpreted as symbolic representation of evil ideas and events as well as a physical person running around and destroying the world. You could definitely find more than one meaning in the lyrics.
The music we produce is not about flowers, so in either case it will be something dark and evil in a way. It definitely has to be based around sadness, anger, inspiration or anguish.
A few things to point out here, one is that Mr.Kill is a male character, and as such we subtly endeavour to promote strength in men and masculinity in general. We need strong men to build our future in this world, if we can even remotely contribute to that cause then that would be great.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Our shows to date have been OK. The band needs to undergo certain changes to be able to present our music in the quality it deserves. There is plenty of things we could do to make our shows fun. We have had a slow start and have played around 10 shows in the last 3 years; however each of us has plenty of experience playing live. We’re just getting started, we are finally releasing music in decent quality and will work on this in the near future.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
I haven’t seen anything too crazy done live, however I really enjoyed the guitar/bass/drums solo battle of GOTSU TOTSU KOTSU when they played with Kataklysm in Melbourne.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
The kit I am not sure, our guitars are DBZ and Ormsby, 6 strings tuned to B. The sound for our guitar tone is an EVH 5150. Nothing too fancy, but does the job really well.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Our upcoming EP, of course. That’s our baby. [Out as of August 1st! – Mosh]
What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?
Melbourne is in lockdown. Atm all we can do is write new material.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
It would be really cool to tour with Kataklysm and Hypocrisy.
