Band of the Day: CROSSON

Jason Crosson has such an awesome name he gifted it to his band. He also took the time to tell us a little more about them…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

From a Galaxy far far away – however, currently residing in Sydney, Australia.

How did you meet? How long have you been playing as a band?

I started this crazy adventure many years ago and there have been various incarnations of CROSSON over the years. I wanted to put together a band that delivered not only good songs but an entertaining live show and over the top image with myself and 2 girls as the focus of the group. We released two albums and a few EPs independently but it wasn’t until 2014 when we got the image and look the way we wanted it and got Duane Baron involved as our mixing engineer and recorded Spreading The Rock N Roll Disease that people started to take notice. We secured a licensing deal with a German label which put on the map with all the European press we received. Our next album Invincible hit the German Rock and Metal Charts and spent 10 weeks in the top 30. We are now back with our best and most successful release Rock N Roll Love Affair!

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

It’s actually my surname and comes from the translation from the Greek name “Stavropoulos” which means “Son Of The Cross”.

What are your influences?

If there was no KISS, then there would be no CROSSON. Musically, it’s the 80s hair bands with the big choruses like Motley Crue, Stryper, Dokken, Scorpions, Bon Jovi, Ozzy, Keel, (and about 50 others) mixed with 70s glam rock ( Queen, Sweet, etc.) and modern day melodic rock.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

CROSSON’s sound can be described as Theatrical Glam Metal with huge catchy choruses and big harmonies. We are constantly being told by people how catchy the songs are and that they won’t leave people’s heads.

Look at us! The visual and stage show we deliver is something unique that no one else is doing. Bringing entertainment back to original music.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Many of CROSSON’s songs deliver an uplifting positive message such as “Everyone’s A Star” and “Givin’ Up Living Giving Up”. That being said, it wouldn’t be a CROSSON album without some tongue-in-cheek such as “Weak At The Knees (For a Hot Brunette!!)”. “We All need An Enemy” (which goes down great during the live show with the CROSSON dancers in their skimpy army uniforms) is a big middle-finger-salute to the politicians who create wars for their own financial gain not caring whose lives are destroyed in the process.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

The CROSSON live show is a theatrical, choreographed, high energy, costume changing rock n roll roller coaster ride!! Our video “Everyone’s A Star” sums it all up. If you haven’t seen CROSSON live, then you need to be converted!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

The whole CROSSON live show is wild from beginning to end from our beautiful dancers in their Geisha outfits, to grabbing female audience members for our song “Weak At The Knees (For a Hot Brunette!!)”. It’s all part of the ride!

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We have just released our new album Rock N Roll Love Affair which has been receiving great reviews around the globe. Rock ‘N Roll Love Affair punches you in the face from the opening chords and erupts with ten infectiously catchy, highly addictive rock tunes. The only cure to get these songs out of your head will need to be medically prescribed.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

Once Covid is over, we will get back to playing again. In the meantime its writing and demoing for the next album!!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

  • KISS
  • Accidental President (local Sydney band)
