Max does bass and vocals for Mudfight. He also answers interview questions…
Simple things first ā where are you guys from?
Alex (guitarist) and I live in Gmunden and Dominik (drummer) lives in Ebensee, both towns are located in Upper Austria, near the cities of Wels and Linz!
How did you meet?
Prior to the band we have only known each other only by sight.
One day I asked Dominik, if he wanted to play the drums in a punk band I was trying to set up!
For a long time, after he joined the band, we played with different guitarists. Alex one day asked me about our band and I arranged a meeting with him. The next days we rehearsed together, and this was the moment he joined in as a real band member!
One of our former guitarists is still a good friend to all of us. She is a very talented songwriter and started a solo project, check her out on instagram! @sodlmusic
How long have you been playing as a band?
Under the current Line-up, we have been playing together since April 2019!
Before you get sick of being askedā¦ where does the band name come from?
Following my suggestion, we named the band after the legendary performance of Green Day at the Woodstock 1994 festival, which ensued in a massive mud fight!
What are your influences?
Breath-taking concerts, new music from our favourite artists and most of all, life experiences we had to get through.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Many people describe our sound as a mix of Green Day, AC/DC, Nirvana and The Ramones. Punchy drums, as catchy as firing basslines and fierce guitar riffs and solos. Every one of us brings diversity into the band, due to the wide variety of our music tastes.
Weāre not afraid to try something new and switch genres between our songs. Some songs have some grunge vibes, others could be described as āgood vibes songsā. But all in all, weāll keep that punk style, coming from our personalities and influences.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
No, not really! As mentioned before, our ideas mostly come from our life experiences! There are texts about relationships, girls, fun, partying… the list is endless.
Whatās your live show like? How many shows have you been playing?
For now, we havenāt played many live shows (under 10) as a band together, and we mostly played in small venues, where we were bound to rather ānormalā live shows! But playing smaller venues is also a great thing too, because you have more contact with your audience.
The bigger and crazier ideas however are already in planning, so don’t miss them!
Whatās the wildest thing youāve seen or done at a live show?
The wildest thing we have seen from punk band Blowfuse, where the frontman climbed on the top of the stage and made a flip in the crowd after the chorus dropped! That was just awesome, we will never forget that.
The wildest thing done by us is hard to answer for now, but it has to be playing bass among the crowd. There was a small problem with the length of my cable… We are really looking forward to venues, where we can live out our real live show ideas!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
I am using two Fender Precision basses (Blue and White in colour), Alex uses a silver Fender Jaguar as main guitar and Dominik uses a red sparkled TAMA drum kit with Meinl cymbals.
What are your plans for 2020?
On the 12th of June, 2020, our new EP Safe Zone was released via our awesome label SBĆM Records! You can order a CD now at shop.sbam.rocks.
Other than that, we had to cancel our shows due to the CoViD-19 pandemic. We may play some shows in fall or winter, do some live streams, and otherwise weāll have to postpone our plans to 2021! We already have planned big stuff, so stay updated via our social media!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone youĀ“ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Supporting Green Day is my personal big dream, even if it’s only for one show! As a band there would be many bands we would love to support, like Anti-Flag, The Bombpops, Lagwagon, The Descendents, NOFX, ā¦
The band we wanted to play with for some time now is the Austrian punk band Here For A Reason, making music in style of A Day To Remember and Neck Deep! We can recommend checking out their music and we are looking forward to play with them the following year!
