Band of the Day: Emily Daccarett

A musical artist and a fashion brand – in one? OK, that’s a new one for us!

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Based out of LA!

How did you meet?

We met at music school in the Musicians’ Institute. We would jam together on different projects.

How long have you been playing as a band?

We were friends before and have played together on different projects. We came together last year to start playing my songs live.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The band’s name is my name and also my fashion brand’s name. Aside from singer/songwriter, I’m also a designer and a visual artist. Using my name felt right because I’m constantly evolving and releasing music according to specific themes.

What are your influences?

My influences are Serge Gainsbourg, Vanessa Paradis, Carla Bruni, Blondie, and David Bowie.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

My music is a blend of French pop, 80s pop, and 70s rock, with a cinematic flair.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

I’m looking for a story to tell and to create the atmosphere for it. Hope, love, seduction are recurring themes with the lyrics. I love film and have a background in film which is the approach I take with my projects so they can be like a form of escapism by creating an immersive experience for people to let go and relax to.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We like to create an intimate vibe reminiscent to what I imagine they were like during the 70’s in LA, like with Mama Cass’s legendary parties in the Hollywood Hills.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

The lead singer of a band sticking his hands in his pants and (I’m not sure if it was simulated) masturbated in the middle of the song.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I’m the lead singer and write and produce the songs we play.

What are your plans for 2020?

Finish up my new album!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

I would love to support Hey Violet and have my good friends from Illicit tour with me, they are an incredible rock band.
