Band of the Day: Angeles

Coming in short and sweet today with Angeles.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from the USA.

How did you meet?

I’m Dale Lytle, the founder and guitarist in the band. Danny Basulto, our drummer, I have known for about 30 years so when I needed a drummer I called him up. At the time he was living in Texas, we flew him out and has been with the band about 6 years now. Cal Shelton, our bass player, also joined the band around the same time. I met Louis Collins through a mutual friend while doing a show at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood.

How long have you been playing as a band?

8 years strong and steady with the current line up.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

It was named after the Angeles National Forest in Southern California.

What are your influences?

Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk Railroad are just a few.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

All original for one and we try and step out of the box. We have songs that deal with issues and songs that are party songs.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

No.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We are a rock band so we can get a little crazy, and how many shows well too many to count over the years.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Pour Champagne over service men at a show we did with Ronnie James Dio in San Diego, also signing $50 and $100 dollar bills with Dio.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Danny our drummer uses a Mapex and Guitars Dale Lytle Les Paul, 86 Kramer, 86 reissue Kramer Baretta and a Martin 12 string electric Cal Shelton Fender Jazz Bass Guitar.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We just released a new CD Hell on High Heels through Dark Star Records/Sony/Universal, also have a couple of videos out featuring “Heal the Wounds” and Rolling Like Thunder” that are on the new CD.

What are your plans for the next 6 months or so?

Hoping that this lock down is done so we can tour.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We would like to open for Mötley Crüe and to open for us Liliac Band.
