With a band bearing this moniker, we just had to feature them today, didn’t we?
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Piacenza, Italy!
How did you meet?
We are friends since high school so we’ve known each other a long time.
How long have you been playing as a band?
With Søndag since 2014, six years now! But we shared other bands in the past as well (not with this full line up).
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
The Scandinavian languages, more precisely the Danish, have always been a deep passion of mine (Marcello). The name means “Sunday”, the day of the week in which in 90% of cases the brain goes out and you let yourself go to complete apathetic and distance from the real world.
We really like the association between our music and this concept!
What are your influences?
I’d say: Nine inch nails, Bring me the Horizon, Deftones (just to name a few!)
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Well, that’s a very difficult question; I’d say that the hard rock influences mixed with the choice of our gear (low-tuned bass VI and 8 string guitars) makes our sound pretty particular!
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Well, “Trendsetter” concept is an openly anti-influencer manifesto. The song ironically tries to make fun of the whole mechanism of leader & follower in the days of social media, underlining how pathetic and morbid the relationship between them can become.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Mate, in our current situation thinking about live shows makes me sad and nostalgic! I think in the last 6 years we played about 80 shows or something like that.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We aren’t one the most explosive live bands around if you know what I mean! We try to do our best through our music, leaving a little bit behind the “wild thing” of many live bands. That’s simply who we are, pretending to be someone else would result fake in my opinion.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Me and Marco are both using Kemper heads, usually with Marshall JCM800 modified profiles.
Also, as I was mentioning before, we use a Strandberg 8 string guitar and a Bass VI guitar.
Riccardo (bass player) uses Musicman and Hartke, while Riccardo (drums) plays with a Tama.
Our shows usually have also a couple of electronic tracks playing in background for some specific moments of the set. In this historical moment of forced quarantine we are also trying to figure out if we can add more synthesizers to our live performance!
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We have just released our new single “Trendsetter” which we were talking before in the lyrics question! We are very proud of it and we really think this track deserves to be listened to!
What are your plans for the rest of 2020?
We are currently mixing and mastering more singles which we will release through the current year.. can’t wait for it!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
As always our answer remains: Deftones… opening on one of their tours would be a dream come true. We’d love to play again with a huge number of bands we already toured with, just to name some of them: Monograss, Finte and Drudge!
