We were lucky enough to premiere one of Air Drawn Dagger’s videos last year. They’ve recently dropped another one and we decided that this time we’d find out more about the talent behind the music…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re Sheffield based with Lewis being originally from Manchester.
How did you meet?
Maisie and Lewis started writing in Maisies cake shop and playing acoustic shows until we found Ross and became a full line up.
Before you get sick of being asked…where does the band name come from?
It is a Shakespeare reference from Macbeth meaning “a sudden outburst of emotion”
What are your influences?
We’re really lucky in that we all have very different influences with various crossovers. My Chemical Romance, Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes, Marmozets and the big ones but we have a lot of hip hop influences and love taking bits from country tracks, we’re also loving pop melodies at the moment.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We like to produce big high energy songs. We’re self produced and we write singles rather than EPs so we can put our energy into making one song as big as possible.
Do you have any particular lyric themes?
We try not to hit on the same topic too many times but we do keep having a sense of “we’re all a mess but we’re a mess together, lets flaunt it”.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Our shows range from theatrical to straight up ratchet. We get really sweaty, let it all out and stomp on a few heads. Too many to count, we love playing live and have been lucky enough to play up and down the UK as well as internationally.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever seen or done at a live show?
Our fans can get hectic, we love them for it. We played a show in LA that was full of choppers and clowns, one clown had a prosthetic leg that we was using to blow up balloon animals…
What kit do you use/ guitars do you play/ etc?
Lewis is using Orange amps, Gretch guitars and D’Addario strings. Ross is using Ludwig/Gretch drums, Promark Sticks and Evans heads
What, if anything are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We’ve just brought out a new single called “Hexed”, it’s pure spooky drama.
What are your plans for 2020?
For now with us being stuck in lockdown, we’ll keep writing and hope we can play shows again very soon. We never stop making, we brought a zine early this year, always writing and designing new merch.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you?
We always love playing with our pals in Havelocke and let’s go with Doja Cat to headline.
